Meet Your Dentist

Walter Fingar, DMD graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. While in college, he kept a four-year athletic scholarship in wrestling and won the Southern Conference Championship in 1979. He was voted captain of the team his junior and senior years.

He continued his education by earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While attending the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), he won the South Carolina Dental Association Award as the outstanding clinical dentist of his class, voted on by the faculty. Though he is a general dentist, Dr. Fingar loves working with children and also won the Pedodontics Award for excellence in children’s dentistry. In addition, he won the Gold Foil Operators of America Award.

After graduation, Dr. Fingar served our country in the United States Army as a Dental Officer for eight years. He supported the 1/75th Ranger Battalion at the Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA and also served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He was Airborne Qualified and also attained his Expert Field Medical Badge. Dr. Fingar was promoted to field grade officer(Major) prior to leaving the Army in 1995. After being a partner dentist at the Dental Team of Sumter for 12 years, he opened We Care Family Dentistry in Hardeeville, SC in the Spring of 2007.

Dr. Fingar enjoys serving his patients. He is sensitive to their needs and concerns. His work ethic is built on honesty, integrity and kindness. You will enjoy his “down to earth, common sense” approach to your dental needs.

His hobbies include watching his son’s tennis games, biking, and the University of Tennessee football. He is a loving husband to his wife, Heidi and a dedicated father to his three sons, J.W., Griffin and Luke Russell. He also loves doting on his two grandchildren, Wyatt and Penelope.

Heidi works as the manager of the practice and is originally from upstate New York. She graduated from S.U.N.Y. Oswego with her Bachelor’s degree in Communications in 1988, traveled for a few years and then moved to Hilton Head Island in 1992, pursuing a career in the health and fitness industry.

She attended Armstrong Atlantic State University while working as the Director of the Fitness Center of Sun City Hilton Head, earning her Master’s degree in Public Health. She then started her own business, Health Undivided, in 1999, encouraging clients to lose weight and live healthy in spirit, soul and body. She wrote a book on her journey to health called, “God is in Your Full Length Mirror; Five Biblical Steps to Lifetime Weight Loss.”

When she is not at the practice, she is spending time with Luke, cooking, exercising, or teaching Women’s Bible Studies at Cornerstone Church in Bluffton. Her favorite weekend getaway is her in-laws’ home in Tryon, NC where she can get outdoors and hike!

Chris is We Care’s Financial Administrator. She is skilled at processing dental insurance claims, appeals,  and office financial operations.

Chris comes to us with ten years of dental office administration management experience with a Northern Illinois dental practice. Chris graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, and spent most of her career managing Chicago area law firms and corporate legal departments.

Chris relocated to Bluffton in 2012, where she enjoys yoga, birding, gardening, and music. Chris has been married to Dave for over 45 years and together enjoy their time with their retired, racing greyhounds, Diamond, and Abby.

They have one daughter, Heidi, who lives in Ventura, CA with her husband Pete and son, Max.

Karen is our smiling Schedule Coordinator and Insurance Specialist who has always been passionate about helping others.  This is reflected each day when she greets patients, confirms appointments, and obtains insurance information. 

She was born in Bogota, Colombia and moved at the age of seven to Lee, Massachusetts.  She graduated from Berkshire Community College in 2017 with an associate degree in Human Services. 

Karen and her husband, Ryan, relocated to Bluffton in 2018.  They enjoy warmer weather and being closer to the beach.   Karen enjoys spending time with her family, nature and long walks with her dog, Philly, a Blue Heeler/Rottweiler mix.

Gayle is We Care’s Schedule Coordinator. As a self-proclaimed “people person”, she enjoys all aspects of communications with patients, especially welcoming them when they arrive for appointments.

She and husband, Ted, are originally from the west coast, moving to Bluffton in 2017 following Ted’s retirement.

Gayle attended Linfield College in Oregon graduating with a major in Early Childhood Development and minor in Communications. After multiple years of teaching, she moved into the office management field. Gayle enjoys being active in her church, golf, reading, travel, her cat, Cassie, and loves living near the beach.

Tiffany works for We Care Family Dentistry as both a registered Dental Hygienist and a Dental Assistant.  This combination is hard to find but she enjoys the variety that both positions offer.  Tiffany takes pride in offering gentle but thorough care by making each patient’s experience a positive one.

Tiffany graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah with an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene in Dental Hygiene in 2011.  She designs same-day CEREC crowns and is certified to administer localized anesthesia.

Tiffany is from the big city of Dublin, Georgia but now resides in Guyton, Georgia with husband, Johnathan and son, Tyeson.  She is very family oriented, a sports fanatic and has a high “passion for fashion.”

Shelby is a Registered Dental Hygienist.  Shelby was born and raised in Columbia, SC. where she graduated from Midlands Technical College with an Associate degree of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene in 2020.  Shelby enjoys interacting with her patients and taking the time to comfort and care for them.

She relocated to Bluffton, SC in 2015 with her husband, John, who is one of her childhood best friends. 

They have a daughter named Hadleigh.

In her spare time, Shelby enjoys spending her summers at the beach with her family and friends, spending time on their boat, and loving on their three dogs, Grace, Luna Mae, and Piper.

Julia is originally from Athens, Georgia. She works for We Care Family Dentistry as a Dental Assistant. Julia enjoys a plethora of extracurricular activities including traveling, cycling, and shopping, but the most unexpected talent that Julia possesses can be witnessed when she performs for weddings and special events as a professional harpist.

Julia is a creative and passionate extension of our team and always shows joy and positivity. She enjoys serving our patients with her big, beautiful smile, bubbly personality and infectious laugh. Her favorite mantra is: “Attitudes are contagious, always make sure yours is worth catching!”
